According to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), the percentage of individuals filing taxes has increased to 50% as of the last day of the tax period. On 20 November 2019, the accumulated GSTR 3B Filing forms showed a total of 18.27 lakh files on the desk. If we compare the returns filed on 20 October 2019, the total returns filed by the taxpayers was 12.20 lakhs for the day.
As per the data, 64.83 lakh GSTR 3B Filing was submitted for the month of October 2019, which was 8.2% higher than the previous month’s files (GSTR 3B) (i.e. 59.90 lakh files were submitted). If we extract the annual data, the total number of GSTR 3B forms is recorded. Taxpayers increased by 9.4% in November this year compared to November figures of the previous year (accumulated 59.28 lakh files). And finally, the total number of GSTR 3Bs is deposited exclusively on 20 November (the last date of return filing), which is 11% higher than the number of forms collected on the same day of last year.
It is clear from the data that taxpayers have become more honest about their monthly, quarterly or annual compliance. It depicts the smooth functioning of the GSTN return filing mechanism working proportionally within its expected time frame.
CBIC recommends the taxpayer be brought back to the safe platform by filing premature returns and avoiding last-minute hassles due to heavy crowds on the website. In addition, it is advisable to file returns on days other than Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to avoid being caught in the rush of other returns. This piece of advice is great for those who want to file their returns easily, accurately and on time.
There have been incidents when taxpayers found themselves in a difficult position while filing their returns, which caused them to complain about the GSTN system on social platforms. As far as the GSTN system is concerned, GSTN is a private firm that manages the IT system of the GST portal, the department confirmed that the return filing system was functioning correctly.
