The department said that the last date for ITR Filing is still 31 August. Taxpayers are advised to file their returns by the same date.
The Income Tax Department tweeted, It has come to the notice of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) that an order is being circulated on social media to extend the last date for ITR Filing. It is clarified that this order is not correct. Taxpayers are advised to file income tax returns only by 31 August.
This clarification from the Income Tax Department came after an order of August 29 was aired on social media. In this, the last date for income tax returns filing has been increased to 30 September.
The CBDT runs the Twitter handle of the Income Tax Department and is the apex policy making body for it. On 23 July 2019, the government extended the last date for filing income tax returns for the financial year 2018-19 to 31 August. It was 31st July.
